Director of Nursing - Skilled Nursing Facility

Summary of PositionThis position provides responsibility and oversight of clinical and operational services with the goal of providing consistency in resident care delivery, performance improvement, quality care, and staff competency related to optimal medical practice performance that are aligned with the goals for Barton Health.
This individual is responsible for the day-to-day coordination of interdisciplinary care activities involving physicians, licensed professional and unlicensed non-professional staff.
The Director of Nursing participates in program development, staff education, community relations, and hospital and medical staff activities, and is responsible for effective quality and fiscal management of operations.
Responsibilities include ensuring conformance to all applicable federal, state, and local laws/regulations.
QualificationsEducation Completion of an accredited nursing program.
Bachelor's or master's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university required, or ability to complete within one year of attaining position Experience Five years' experience within the last ten years in the provision of care in a long-term care or skilled nursing facility.
Experience in the supervision and management of employees.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to the operation of a skilled nursing facility.
Demonstrated leadership capabilities, internal management skills, ability to interact with medical, nursing, and non-clinical staff.
Current knowledge in nursing practice and healthcare delivery of services with emphasis on performance improvement, systems improvement, patient safety and regulatory compliance.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Knowledge of human resources functions including labor laws, employee motivation, employee accountability and employee development.
Ability to analyze and interpret financial documents.
Sufficient computer skills as are required to complete an online application and pre-employment/annual online learning requirements.
Ability to effectively communicate in English.
Bi-lingual abilities preferred.
Certifications/Licensure:
Current Registered Nurse license issued by the State of California, or ability to obtain prior to start date.
Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification from the American Heart Association, or ability to obtain prior to start date.

Ensures appropriate staff training, orientation, observed competency and performance for all skilled nursing facility employees.
Promotes resident safety through effective environmental monitoring and Infection Prevention.

Ensures effective oversight of scheduling and staffing.
Completes position control for clinical roles as needed.
Ensures the development of annual fiscal, quality, performance improvement and operational goals.
Researches, reviews, and implements new products, systems, as needed, including contract review, education to staff, etc.
Formulates annual operational and capital budgets and directs department operations to achieve budgeted results.
Develops and administers policies and procedures compliant with Barton objectives and all laws and regulations pertaining to the operation of a skilled nursing facility Develops and manages the QAPI (Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement) and the Antibiotic Stewardship program for the facility, including monitoring, reporting to appropriate entities and continuing education to medical and nursing staff, residents, and families as appropriate.
Maintains current knowledge and ensures compliance with all regulatory standards for the operation of a skilled nursing facility and provision of care to residents through effective operations monitoring and inspection of practice, and by working closely with the Quality and Risk Management Department.
In collaboration with Human Resources, ensures appropriate selection and hiring of staff.
Provides effective coaching, mentoring and discipline Just Culture principles to ensure continual operational effectiveness.
Works in collaboration with other Barton Health department leaders to provide an effective use of the continuum of services that is resident, and family centered.
Builds optimal relationships with medical and other professional staff to ensure effective exchange of information to promote safe and effective resident care.
Maintains professional growth for self and staff through education activities, seminars, workshops and professional affiliations.
Keeps abreast of current healthcare trends.
Participates in shared governance, operational and leadership meetings.
Engages in community related activities and programs to maintain effective community relationships Monitors, reviews and pursues improvement with contracted entities to guarantee compliance and use of best practices.

CDPH, El Dorado County, Collaborates with Point Click Care billing services to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant billing practices are always maintained for the SNF.
Also ensures AR balances are monitored regularly to ensure timeliness of claim filing and follow up.
Reviews and approves monthly Pharmacy invoices for both Skilled and LTC residents.
Reviews all Occurrences and events through event reporting system.
Follows through with any new interventions to resolve issues.
Ensures accuracy and completes timely approval of invoices through the Aperek system.
Maintains a SNF/LTC census as appropriate.
This includes staffing, appropriateness of admissions, bed availability, etc.
Collaborates with SNF Leadership to ensure above parameters are met.
Responds to the needs of the department by performing other duties, as necessary.
